What is the measure of a person's spirit?

I suppose that's an opinion of the viewer. But for me, I've only lived a little over 2 decades, and have met countless people. Several people I've met that have truly shown me what the measure of a person's spirit is. Tonight I am thinking of two in particular.

I could ramble on and on about their merits, our history, our friendship, etc etc, but to sum it up, I need only to look at one dear little creature, who's body was small, but her soul was radiant.

Moonbeam was (and is, as her soul lives on) one of the luckiest hearts I know of. She was blessed to come into a family that cherished and loved her. For a long time Beamer didn't even come out of her cage much (and she loved to take a nibble of you if you came close), but through the love and attention of her companions, Kelly and Stacy, she eventually learned to come out and even perch on an arm or a sofa. She was attentive, cute beyond belief, and intelligent.

Yet again, I could be pretty verbose about Moonbeam's qualities.

She was never neglected or forgotten, and always well-cared for. I know the tenderness and love in their voices when they talked to her. For me, I've seen the measure of their spirits in the way they cared for this dear little heart, how they loved her so much.

I don't ever mean to be overbearing about my beliefs, but I believe that God values the souls and lives of all creatures, and wants us to be their caretakers, and their friends. That's partly why they're here. Because God loves them, and wants us to love them as well. Well, He'd never have reason to be disappointed in Kelly and Stacy.

I write this feeling the pain in my heart at missing Beamer, and at the heartbreak her passing brings to those she loved. But I also write this with hope in my heart, that those we love do not vanish or die, they merely pass on, and are around us sometimes, and waiting for us when it comes time for us to journey on as well.

As Kelly put it, Moonbeam left a wingprint on her heart, and on mine. But Kelly and Stacy also left a wingprint on Mooonbeam's heart, and on mine as well.

Your wings may feel broken now, but they will heal. Hang in there, and may you look forward with hope.
